This two-night workshop explores what it means for European actors to enter the American theater and film industries. Whether your sights are set on New York City or Los Angeles, you’ll gain practical insight into the logistics of studying, auditioning, working, and building a sustainable career in the United States.
Together, we’ll trace the cultural and artistic traditions that have shaped American acting over the past century—from the Group Theatre and Method acting to today’s self-tape culture—and consider how they differ from European approaches to the craft.
Chris Domig, an Austrian-American actor, writer, and artistic director, has lived in the United States for 25 years, the last 20 of them in New York City. Drawing on his experience working on both sides of the Atlantic, Chris offers a uniquely grounded perspective on navigating the American acting landscape.
Six active participants will work on selected scenes from contemporary plays currently featured on American stages and receive individualized coaching from Chris, while six observing participants will watch the process unfold and join in group discussions. All students will take part in conversations about artistic practice, training opportunities, and practical strategies for breaking into the American market.
